To many Michael Jackson was an icon, a legend, a singer, a dancer, a superstar, a tragedy, a news story, a media sensation, a mentor, a controversy, a genius, and a friend. To me Michael was more than a simple performer, entertainer, or pop sensation. Michael was an inspiration, a driving force that powered my imagination, my ambitions, and my pathway through life. He was intangible like a god awe inspiring in his stage presence and yet there when I needed him if only in spirit.

I remember Michael not just for his musical accomplishments or lavish lifestyle but also for his short film achievments. Although many remember The Wiz, my fondest memories of Michael on screen will remain firmly etched by my discovery of Thriller, Moonwalker, Captain EO, and Ghosts.

Michael was a man I had never met, yet I find myself mourning his loss along with the rest of his fans across the world. A world that in many ways did everything to hate him and now tries to love him. I believe it is our wish, his fans that Michael be remembered for the positive impact he made to this world, a world we now find just a bit emptier without him here.

Through his music and his words I found strength, comfort, peace, understanding, and the will to keep fighting when all seems lost. Michael to me represents hope and that hope will live on through the countless gifts he's given. His words, his talent, his memory will forever immortalize him as not just the King of Pop but a symbol of one man who has made a difference.
